Log - Day 4

 Thur 16th of April 2026

The incident regarding the approvals there was closed today the approvals are working as expected but the user is now saying that the groups are completely wrong so the user said I could close the task close the incident and he’s gonna log a request to get the groups changed because it’s not an incident. It’s basically a request to change something so that’s good. Regarding the field not populating on the RITM I was right in suspecting there was something to do with the group visibility of that field and that’s what it turned out to me because I wasn’t a member of the groups that had visibility to the values in that field. I wasn’t seeing those values on the ticket so when I logged it impersonated as a user the values were there so that’s all fine.

Spoke to a colleague today about a process for approvals on a different ticket. Got some clarification on what that was what the approval process is. It’s regarding a topic and support group of that topic and any requests should go to the support group of that topic. The issue that we’ve got at the moment is tickets logged for access to the topic that my team look after the approvals aren’t firing so I’ve managed to correct that but I need to check with another colleague whether that is the proper process on this particular catalogue item because there seems to be some script in on the task or a client script within the catalogue item that seems to control where the tasks are assigned to so whether the approval that I’ve added will affect that somehow I’m not sure so I’ll need to check with my colleague.

Picked up a task today that looks straightforward for building cat item or correcting the catalogue item that one of my older colleagues from my older team had built, turns out they actually want seven separate catalogue items building rather than having all the options in one catalogue item and just make it completely unfriendly for the user. I managed to build all seven cat items today and test each one of them and each one of them seem to work which is great so I’ve pushed them all into the test instance and now we need to get the user to just to test them all, it was good to have some good wins like that cause I enjoy building catalogue items I’m getting them to work like that and get all the UI policies to work as well one of a matter a specific approval that did use a select from a list of names and I managed to get the approval to Run and fire and assigned directly to the user that was selected in a catalogue item, so that was another nice win.

Trying to think of what else I did today, but I think it took me most of the day to build a seven cat items and to speak to my colleague about the process on the other cat Items. I remember what I did it was a Carlo item has a list of companies have a specific filter, but the user just said to check which one should be available based on other catalogue item, while I was checking that catalogue item the user updated their ticket with a list of companies that should be available. This list was different to what was in the catalogue item they suggested I check so I managed to build a filter that included both lists into the one list so they make 27 maybe 30 companies on the list now so I just need to get the user just to confirm which list they want the one from the catalogue item the one that they provided in Ory mixture of both lists it’s a bit of a weird one because filter has to be quite specific because some of the companies have got different values for different fields, but rather to see what the news comes back with to confirm which way they want to go with that one.

As she went for a walk today which was quite nice and use my new AirPod maxes which are quite good really enjoying that much they do quite incredible but I had to pop into the pub on the way which is quite nice. Had a light off in there and I walk at home again and then stopped to the shop and got a pizza and added some cheese on top of them feeling quite bloated now so I think the lactose intolerance is playing a bit of her feeling a bit gassy and a bit bloated. I just remembered I need to wash up before breakfast in the morning that’s if I feel like having breakfast, I might just have coffee.

When looking back at these notes I’m taking it becomes apparent that trying to type all this out would’ve been a problem so dictating it into Notes is actually quite good, even if the dictation isn’t great.

I do need to do a bit more service now training on workflows workload legacy and that kind of thing to keep up with my development plan. I have fallen behind on it quite badly. I need to catch up with that but I don’t wanna put too much pressure on myself because I know the training and it won’t stick it won’t sink. It is something that I need to do though there is some training available like just general training within service now for the objectives that’s what I’m thinking of the yearly objectives so there is some training available. I just need to have a look through the service now university and have a look and find out what there is.

I also need to book a holiday. I’ve not had a proper holiday for awhile but going somewhere by myself is quite daunting. Paris was fun but now obviously because I go there for work once every six months it’s it’s nice but it’s it wouldn’t feel like a holiday as much, so I’m still thinking Jersey 50 minute flight it’s kind of French kind of English it’s a small island probably walk places and there’s a zoo something to go somewhere nice I don’t know. I need to book something.
